Cadet Program

Civil Air Patrol's Cadet Program is a year-round program where cadets learn how to be leaders, fly in our single engine aircraft, participate in emergency services and aerospace training activities, and develop strong friendships with their peers. An overview of CAP's Cadet Program can be found here, as well as a fact sheet here.

Leadership and Character

Civil Air Patrol introduces cadets to Air Force perspectives on leadership through classroom instruction, mentoring, and hands-on learning. First, cadets learn to follow, but as they progress, they learn how to lead small teams, manage projects, think independently, and develop leadership skills they can use in adult life. Through character forums, cadets discuss ethical issues relevant to teens. Chaplains and Character Development Instructors often lead the discussions, but the forums are not religious meetings. CAP challenges cadets to live their core values and encourages cadets to promote a drug free ethic in their schools and communities.

Aerospace

Civil Air Patrol inspires in youth a love of aviation, space, and technology. Cadets study the fundamentals of aerospace science in the classroom and experience flight first-hand in CAP aircraft. Cyber topics important to the national defense represent a new frontier. Summer activities allow cadets to explore aerospace-related careers.

Fitness

Civil Air Patrol encourages cadets to develop a lifelong habit of regular exercise. Civil Air Patrol's Cadet Program promotes fitness through calisthenics, hiking, rappelling, obstacle courses, competitions, and other vigorous activities. A comprehensive fitness test based on age, gender, and cadet rank challenges cadets.

Emergency Services

Civil Air Patrol trains cadets to participate with Senior Members in volunteer service, disaster relief, and search and rescue missions. These activities help to forge self-less character, an attention to detail and willingness to work hard for the sake of others, and a servant hearted dedication to serving to their communities.

Adult Members

Adult volunteers, or Senior Members, join Civil Air Patrol in a variety of roles in support of our missions--Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs. Senior Members are able fly in CAP aircraft, participate in Emergency Services efforts as a ground team member, provide leadership and experience (both civilian and military) to our cadets, or become an aerospace education officer, just to name a few.

CAP adult members come from all walks of life. Some are doctors, nurses, paramedics, or other medical professionals. Others are lawyers, paralegals, accountants, computer programmers, and other business professionals and executives. Most careers or backgrounds can be useful to and found in the ranks of CAP adult membership. CAP supports a variety of missions that require adults from all walks of life.
